Do not ban devices; govern them with open clarity. Print and agree on these four non-negotiable household rules:

1. Dedicated ME Hours & The Sleep Sanctuary: All devices (phones, tablets, laptops) stay in the common living area after 9:00 p.m. No screens in the bedroom during sleep hours. A minimum of 2 hours daily are dedicated to offline hobbies, sports, and reading ("ME Hours").

3. The Family Data Shield: Never enter real names, school names, home addresses, phone numbers, family photos, or personal secrets into any public AI chatbot.
4. The Screen-Off Test: If you used AI to help solve a math problem or understand a science topic, you must be able to explain the concept out loud to a parent or sibling with the device screen turned off.

Is my child cheating if they use AI for homework?

It depends on what the AI did. If it wrote the answer, yes — and worse, the marks arrive without the learning. If it explained the concept, quizzed them, or showed where their own answer went wrong, that is studying with a patient tutor. Teach the line once, out loud, and check the exercise book against what your child can explain to you.

Will AI stop my child from thinking for themselves?

Only if it is used as an answer machine — outsourced thinking is the one real danger this book keeps returning to.
