Every student in Sri Lanka has said this. We're building the AI that gives them those hours back.
My name is Samisa Abeysinghe. For 15 years, I led engineering and delivery at WSO2, a Sri Lankan enterprise software company trusted by hundreds of the world's largest organizations. I built teams. I shipped products. I obsessed over engineering excellence and customer success.
But one question kept nagging me: why don't our own children have access to the kind of personalized, adaptive technology we build for Fortune 500 companies?
A student preparing for O/L or A/L exams in Sri Lanka has two choices: expensive private tuition (LKR 1,000-5,000 per subject per month, mostly passive listening) or studying alone with textbooks and no feedback. There's no middle ground. No personal tutor who knows your weaknesses. No system that adapts to how you think.
It started with books. Through the Idasara Book Donation Program, we've donated educational books to over 3,000 students across Sri Lanka — from Grade 1 to university. Every district. Every type of school. Every economic background.
But books are limited. A textbook doesn't know which chapter you struggle with. It can't generate practice questions tailored to your mistakes. It can't send your parent a progress report.
So we built something more. Idasara Academy — an AI-powered study platform that gives every Sri Lankan student what only the wealthy can currently afford: a personal tutor.
We don't believe in replacing teachers. Teachers are mentors, motivators, guides. We believe in replacing the absence of a teacher — those lonely evening hours when a student sits with a textbook and has no one to ask "did I understand this correctly?"
Our AI Study Coach doesn't teach. It enables learning. It creates personalized daily study plans. It generates practice questions at exactly the right difficulty. It celebrates streaks and milestones. And when a student is struggling, it tells their parent — not with shame, but with a plan.
Exams test knowledge. Life tests skills. We're building for both. Every feature on Idasara is designed to strengthen five core skills:
These are the skills that matter in the AI era. The student who can think critically and communicate clearly will thrive — regardless of what AI can automate.
Sri Lanka has three languages. Education shouldn't be limited to one. Every screen, every prompt, every study plan on Idasara works in English, Sinhala, and Tamil. Not as a translation afterthought — as a design requirement from day one.
Every feature is evaluated against one question: does this help the student do more personal study work? If it makes students more dependent on teachers rather than more self-directed, we reconsider.
Celebrations outnumber alerts 10:1. No shaming. No negative badges. When a student is struggling, we send encouragement — not criticism. The research is clear: positive reinforcement drives learning.
We track mastery, not attendance. We measure improvement, not compliance. Every claim we make about academic outcomes is backed by real data from real students.
14-step implementation process. Test-first development. 160+ automated tests. Security audits on every endpoint. This isn't a side project — it's a production platform that real students depend on.
Free tier available. LKR 17/day for full access — less than a three-wheeler ride. Tri-lingual. Mobile-first. Works on any phone with a browser. No student should be locked out by economics.
We're not building for one exam. We're building for a lifetime: O/L → A/L → University → Career. Today's Grade 5 student is tomorrow's professional. We'll be there for the entire journey.
Whether you're a student, a parent, a teacher, or someone who believes every child deserves a personal tutor — there's a place for you at Idasara.
