What must I remember about Future perfect & Reported speech?
- Direct Speech quotes exact spoken words inside inverted commas; Indirect (Reported) Speech relays the content with tense backshift and pronoun adjustment.
- Tense backshift rule: Simple Present -> Simple Past; Present Continuous -> Past Continuous; Present Perfect -> Past Perfect; 'will' -> 'would'.
- Time and place adverbial shifts: now -> then; today -> that day; tomorrow -> the next day; yesterday -> the day before; here -> there.
- Reporting questions: Wh- questions retain the question word ('She asked what my name was'); Yes/No questions use 'if' or 'whether'.
- Sentence structure in reported questions becomes statement order (Subject + Verb), omitting auxiliary 'do/did' and question marks.
