What must I remember about Conditional sentences & Third conditional?

• Conditional Type 3 expresses unchangeable past conditions and hypothetical regrets: 'If + had + past participle, would have + past participle'.
• Functions to express retrospection, missed opportunities, and historical reflection: 'If industries had filtered emissions, acid rain would not have degraded the forests'.
• Modal variations in Conditional Type 3 results: 'could have + past participle' (ability/possibility), 'might have + past participle' (uncertainty).
• Inverted structure without 'if' in formal prose: 'Had we recognized the climate crisis earlier, sustainable alternatives would have been established'.
• Environmental sustainability vocabulary: renewable resources, carbon footprint, ecological catastrophe, mitigate degradation, reforestation.

1. The Conditional Type 3 'would have' trap

   Never write 'would have' in the 'if' clause (e.g., 'If they would have warned us, we would have prepared' is a fatal error; write 'If they had warned us, we would have prepared').

2. Contraction handling

   In negative past conditionals, write 'hadn't' or 'had not', and 'wouldn't have' or 'would not have' accurately without dropping 'have'.
