About A/L Biology: A/L Biology covers the study of life from molecular to ecosystem level.

A. Sensory Receptors Definition: Specialized cells or nerve endings that detect specific types of stimuli from the internal or external environment and convert them into nerve impulses. Explanation: Sensory receptors are the body's detection system that allows us to perceive our environment. They are specialized structures located throughout the body that respond to specific types of stimuli such as light, sound, temperature, pressure, or chemicals. When stimulated, these receptors generate electrical signals (nerve impulses) that travel to the brain for interpretation. Different receptors are specialized for different types of stimuli, allowing us to experience various sensations like sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Without sensory receptors, our nervous system would have no information to process about the world around us. Think of it as: Sensory receptors are like security cameras in a building - each camera is positioned to monitor a specific area and type of activity, sending video signals to a central monitoring station (the brain) for analysis.
