A. Non-Mendelian Inheritance Patterns Definition: Patterns of inheritance that do not follow Mendel's laws of segregation and independent assortment, resulting in different phenotypic ratios and genetic outcomes. Explanation: Non-Mendelian inheritance refers to genetic patterns that deviate from the simple dominant-recessive relationships described by Gregor Mendel. These patterns occur because genes can interact in complex ways, multiple alleles can exist for a single gene, or genes can be linked on the same chromosome. Unlike Mendelian inheritance which produces predictable 3:1 or 9:3:3:1 ratios, non-Mendelian patterns create different phenotypic distributions that reflect more complex biological realities. These patterns are important because they explain the vast genetic diversity observed in nature and help us understand many human genetic traits and disorders.
