About A/L Biology: A/L Biology covers the study of life from molecular to ecosystem level.

A. Soil as a Microbial Habitat Definition: Soil provides a complex physical and chemical environment that serves as a natural medium for the growth and activity of diverse microorganisms. Explanation: Soil is not just dirt but a living ecosystem teeming with microorganisms. It has a specific physical structure with particles of different sizes (sand, silt, clay) that create pores for air and water movement. Chemically, soil contains minerals, organic matter, water, and gases that provide nutrients for microbial growth. The combination of these physical and chemical factors creates microhabitats with varying oxygen levels, moisture content, pH, and nutrient availability, allowing different types of microorganisms to thrive in different soil zones. This habitat supports bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, protozoa, algae, and other microscopic life forms that are essential for soil health.
